Rashford’s vow
MARCUS RASHFORD has vowed to repair his fractured relationship with Erik ten Hag after the Dutchman was confirmed as Manchester United manager for next season.
A source told SunSport: “Marcus knows one thing with ten Hag and that is that he really rates him. He knows he’s underperformed big time but has been telling his friends that he’s coming back strong this next season.
“He knows a new manager could have come in and got rid of him. He doesn’t want to go anywhere and wants to get back to his best.”
Ashworth wait
MANCHESTER UNITED are ready to wait another NINE MONTHS for Dan Ashworth to start work as their new sporting director.
Ashworth, 53, was due to be one of the first recruits under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s new regime in February.
But his current club Newcastle refused to let Ashworth go without compensation and put him on gardening leave.
It is believed Toon initially demanded £20million to secure the services of Ashworth, who moved to St James’ Park from Brighton in 2022.
But Red Devils co-owner Ratcliffe branded that figure “absurd” so the case will go to arbitration and be decided by a third party.
Ashworth has a long-standing relationship with Sir Dave Brailsford — head of sport at Ratcliffe’s Ineos empire and now United’s director of sport — with the pair beginning their connection during Ashworth’s spell working at the Football Association.
David available
According to reports, longterm Man Utd and Arsenal target Jonathan David could be available this summer.
His club Lille are ready to sell the Canadian for a cut price £30million, say talkSPORT.
The reason for the relatively low fee is because his contract runs out in 2025.
Zirkzee boost
New reports claim that AC Milan have dropped out of the race to sign Joshua Zirkzee.
The Dutch forward is believed to have a £34million transfer release clause in his contract.
However, the Italian club are said to resent paying the huge agent fees.
His rep, Kia Joorabchian, is thought to want around £12m according to rumours.
Greenwood’s potential swap
Mason Greenwood’s future at Old Trafford is all but over.
But there are plenty of suitors for him, especially in Italy, where Lazio are the latest team to throw their hat into the ring to sign him.
Juventus are also interested in the forward, and are reportedly preparing a swap to sweeten the deal.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claim the Old Lady will use Federico Chiesa as a makeweight for the move.
Branthwaite latest
Man Utd are prepared to walk away from a deal for Jarrad Branthwaite.
His side Everton want circa £70million for the defender.
But the Red Devils are unwilling to match the Toffees’ demands.
If Everton continue to play hardball, it is believed United will walk away from negotiations and turn their attentions elsewhere.
