People living east of Las Animas and Fort Lyon were ordered to evacuate, Bent County fire officials said.
BENT COUNTY, Colo. — A fast-growing wildfire in southeast Colorado is forcing evacuations.
The Las Animas/Bent County Fire Protection District said residents living east of the town of Las Animas and residents in Fort Lyon have been told to go.
Highway 101 is closed, CSP La Junta posted.
Fire crews said they’re battling the fire in the Boggsville area near the Purgatoire River, which is just south of Las Animas. The fire is estimated to be just under 250 acres as of noon Saturday. There is zero containment of the fire, officials said.
There are multiple agencies responding to the blaze, officials said.
