Colorado could see some significant travel impacts on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Here’s a look at the snow headed to Colorado this weekend.

DENVER — Colorado is likely to see snow in the on Christmas Eve, with the potential for some significant travel impacts across the state this weekend.

Two areas of low pressure will likely merge into one on Saturday or Sunday, and where, when, and how that merger takes place will determine whether Denver and northeastern Colorado gets a smaller, low-impact type of snow versus a potentially more significant one.

There are still (I know, I know) lots of questions about this weekend’s snow event, with computer forecast models still all over the place a bit. The models are struggling with how and where the two lows will merge together, and that’ll have huge implications for our forecast.

But, it’s looking increasingly likely that we’ll see a few inches of slushy accumulation in the Denver area, with more in the mountains.

At this point, it looks like the heaviest snow (and highest travel impacts) will come on Saturday night into Sunday morning. It looks like we’ll have light snow around most of Christmas Eve, but the heavier stuff will be on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

That could also lead to a snowy Sunday night Broncos game at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, though the snow (at this point) looks mostly just light during the game on Sunday night.

Christmas Eve and Christmas morning look mostly cloudy with flurries/light snow. The snow ends on Christmas, with a few inches of snow likely in Denver and higher amounts on the Palmer Divide and in the mountains.

Sunshine returns on Tuesday with highs back into the 40s by then as well.

Stay with us for the latest on this tricky upcoming storm, and enjoy the mild weather while we’ve got it!
