Just hours after Biden dropped out and endorsed Harris, Trump posted what he thinks should happen for the next debate.

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden’s decision to drop his reelection bid has many people wondering when the next debates will be in the 2024 race for the White House.

Biden left the race after a disastrous debate last month against Donald Trump.

The two campaigns previously agreed to two total presidential debates and were working on coordinating a vice presidential debate.

With this major shakeup in the 2024 campaign, it’s unclear what will happen next.

When is the next presidential debate?

While Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, she doesn’t automatically replace him as the new nominee atop the ticket.

Democrats are expected to officially pick a presidential candidate, along with their running mate, during the Democratic National Convention from Aug. 19-22.

Last week, former President Trump’s campaign said it wouldn’t agree to any vice presidential debate until at least after the DNC. The campaign suggested at the time it was still uncertain who would be on the Democratic ticket. Less than a week later, that is the case.

ABC News had been scheduled to host the second, and final, debate between Biden and Trump on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.

Just hours after Biden dropped out and endorsed Harris, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social that he thinks the next presidential debate should instead be hosted by Fox News.

Trump did tell CBS News on Sunday that he would like to debate whoever the Democratic candidate is.

Prior to Biden dropping out, Harris and Sen. JD Vance, the new Republican vice presidential nominee, had yet to agree on terms to participate in a debate.

Harris agreed to either an Aug. 12 or Aug. 13 vice presidential debate on CBS. In that case too the Trump campaign hadn’t agreed to the CBS debate, but did agree to a vice presidential debate hosted by Fox News – which Biden’s team has indicated it would reject.
