Gabriel Faudoa faces 16 to 48 years in prison when sentenced in January 2024.
GREELEY, Colo. — A Weld County jury convicted a man who fatally stabbed his own mother in 2021 while he was serving parole for a prior assault conviction.
The jury returned its guilty verdict against Gabriel Faudoa, 34, on Nov. 3.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, he stabbed his mother 54 times. At his trial, he claimed that he was suffering from methamphetamine-induced psychosis at the time.
June Martinez Faudoa, who was known as “Jean,” was found dead just before 8 a.m. on May 11, 2021, in her home in the 400 block of Wall Street just outside Eaton city limits.
Faudoa was identified as a suspect based on witness statements and after the incident, he left the area in a stolen vehicle, according to investigators.
Around 8:30 a.m., he was located and detained by deputies and Eaton police near 5th and Wall Streets in Eaton.
Faudoa was convicted in 2019 of second-degree assault involving strangulation, according to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office. He was sentenced on Jan. 30, 2019, to six years in prison, but was paroled in August 2020 after serving just 20 months.
He’s set for sentencing on Jan. 18, 2024 and could face 16 to 48 years in prison. He’s currently being held without bond at the Weld County Jail.
