The rockslide happened Wednesday morning, prompting a closure of the highway between County Road 68 and County Road 50.

ROUTT COUNTY, Colo. — Both directions of US Highway 40 were closed Wednesday morning after a rockslide in Routt County.

The rockslide happened west of Steamboat Springs around 7 a.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). Highway 40 between County Roads 68 and 50 was closed as crews worked to clear the debris.

No time frame has been given for reopening the highway.

Drivers are asked to use County Roads 33, 33A and 27 south of the highway, CDOT said.

The rockslide postponed a closure and cleanup of yesterday’s crash on Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon. CDOT will update the public when the closure is rescheduled.
