A shelter-in-place order was lifted for the campus around 9:30 a.m. Friday.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Colorado Springs Police were investigating after two people were found shot dead in a dorm room Friday morning at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS).
A shelter-in-place order for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) campus issued this morning has been lifted.
Police said in an update on Friday that public safety received a report of shots fired just before 6 a.m. inside a dorm room.
At 6:05 am., officers were able to get inside the room and found two people, both with at least one gunshot wound, who were dead. Police were then called in, and it is currently being treated as a homicide investigation.
UCCS Public Safety posted at 7:02 a.m. that a lockdown was in place at the campus located at 1420 Austin Bluffs Pkwy.
About eight minutes later, authorities said there was no active shooter but asked people on campus to continue sheltering in place until further notice. They also said campus would be closed for the day.
Just before 8 a.m., authorities said the shelter-in-order was reduced to just Alpine Village and that anyone in other areas were allowed to leave campus. Public safety also asked people to limit their movements on campus.
Police are investigating the shooting as an isolated incident, and at this time they do not believe there is a danger to the public.
