Court records show Jayson Boebert is suspected of misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief. He and the congresswoman were involved in an altercation last weekend.

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. — Jayson Boebert, ex-husband of Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of misdemeanor assault after the two got into a public altercation over the weekend.

Court records show Jayson Boebert is suspected of misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief. Garfield County jail records indicate Boebert was processed and released Tuesday. His bond was set at $1,500.

A check of court records does not indicate a pending criminal case involving Rep. Lauren Boebert in Garfield County.

Court records provided sparse details which did not confirm whether Jayson Boebert’s arrest was related to the weekend incident.

Silt Police, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, and prosecutors with the 9th Judicial District did not immediately respond to requests for comment late Tuesday night.

Silt Police responded to the Miner’s Cabin restaurant on Saturday night. Jayson Boebert told multiple media outlets that he met his ex-wife there to have a conversation.

Rep. Boebert released a statement Sunday saying she had not punched her husband in the face during the altercation, suggesting that claim was fabricated.

“This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason I’m moving,” Boebert said in a statement on Sunday. “I didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options.”

Boebert filed for divorce against her husband of nearly 18 years in May. The Colorado Sun reports the divorce was finalized in October.

Boebert announced in December that she would not run for re-election in Colorado’s third Congressional District where she faced difficult primary and general election challengers and instead would run in Colorado’s fourth Congressional District on the Eastern Plains. She joins a crowded Republican primary in a safer Republican district currently held by retiring Rep. Ken Buck.
