The truck was over the maximum length to drive in Georgetown and did not use the city’s designated route for large trucks.
GEORGETOWN, Colo. — Police in Georgetown said on Wednesday that they’re looking for a truck driver who was involved in an accident Monday after the semi-truck they were driving damaged a bridge and a nearby home, then left the scene.
The accident happened around 7 p.m., as the driver of the semi-truck and trailer tried to make a left turn from Argentine Street onto 7th Street.
Police said that they believe retractable support equipment underneath the trailer caught the end of the railing on the bridge and ripped it from the wooden posts to which it was attached.
Even though Georgetown has a designated truck route for longer vehicles with a permit, the semi-truck driver was not using that designated route. The route that the driver used Monday was too narrow for the truck to pass, police said.
A photo provided by Georgetown Police shows the wooden railing that was ripped off the bridge protruding out of the side of a house that’s near the bridge. One of the occupants of the house was injured, police said.

There is very little information to go on to identify the driver, police said.
They said the driver left the scene without stopping, and video that shows the truck leaving town at a traffic roundabout is poor quality, and it’s difficult for police to make out any markings on the truck.
