The skier, a 58-year-old man, hit a tree and died on the scene, deputies said.
KEYSTONE, Colo. — A skier died after hitting a tree at Keystone Ski Resort Thursday, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said.
The sheriff’s office said it happened around 9:45 a.m. on the Flying Dutchman Trail on Dercum Mountain. The skier, a 58-year-old man, hit a tree and died on the scene, deputies said. His name has not yet been released.
Deputies said the man was a Summit County local and was wearing a helmet when he crashed.
No other skiers or riders were involved, deputies said, but another skier saw the crash.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by the tragic loss of life at Keystone Ski Resort,” Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons said in a news release. “We are actively investigating the incident and working closely with resort officials to ensure the safety of all visitors to our community’s beloved slopes.”
