The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office still has not released a timeline for evacuees to re-enter their homes.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Evacuees from the Quarry Fire picked up re-entry passes from Dakota Ridge High School on Saturday.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is issuing them to everyone who has been evacuated. Evacuees will need this pass to get back to their neighborhoods once the mandatory evacuation orders are lifted.

As of Saturday, Deer Creek Mesa and Kuehster were moved from mandatory evacuation to pre-evacuation. People who live in those neighborhoods are now able to get back to their homes as of 5 p.m. Saturday, with a re-entry badge. Dakota Ridge High School will be issuing badges for people in those neighborhoods until 8 p.m. on Saturday with proof of address.

People in the Murphy Gulch, McKinney Ranch, Maxwell and Sampson neighborhoods who need to pick up their pass can do so again Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with proof of address.

Bruce West lives in one of nearly 600 houses the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office told to evacuate when the Quarry Fire ripped through Tuesday night.

“This is the parking lot at Dakota Ridge High School, which is an evacuation center for everyone that’s forced out of our homes because of the fire up at Deer Creek Canyon,” West said.

Bruce turned this parking lot into a temporary home for his family, including his dogs Maggie Mae and Mr. Linus.

“We have been sleeping in the front seat. We just kick it back,” West said.

On Saturday, Bruce picked up his pass to get back into his neighborhood, once the mandatory evacuation is lifted.

“All the residents in the fire area are required to have a pass to be able to get in and out of the Quarry Fire area,” West said. “It’s been so confusing from the get-go, and of course it’s going to be. But it is one step closer.”

Bruce knows the way back into his home will take much longer than the hustle to get out.

“Just get ‘er done as soon as possible,” West said. “And praying that none of the firefighters receive any more injuries and they’re all safe. I guess they’ve been having a heck of a go up there, so thoughts and prayers to them.”
