The U.S. Forest Service plans to burn up to 536 acres in the Green Mountain – Little Scraggy area of Jefferson County.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A prescribed burn near Deckers was making smoke visible Wednesday afternoon in the Denver metro area.
The Pike-San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands, South Platte Ranger District said it plans to burn up to 536 acres of National Forest System lands in the Green Mountain – Little Scraggy area of Jefferson County.
Smoke and flames could be visible for days to weeks following the burn southwest of Denver. Don’t call 911 if you see this smoke, as it’s not an emergency.
Prescribed fire reduces woody debris, small trees and shrubs on the forest floor. Removing these hazardous fuels decreases the risk of extreme wildland fires, the U.S. Forest Service said in a news release.
