Colorado’s governor has been at the convention all week alongside other state political leaders.
CHICAGO — Colorado Governor Jared Polis will speak at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night, a spokesperson confirmed.
Polis is scheduled to speak between 6-7 p.m. CST (5-6 p.m. MT for those watching at home in Colorado). He’s joining other big names tonight: Minnesota Governor-turned-vice presidential pick Tim Walz is headlining the main event.
To help shepherd the campaign’s message, Walz will be joined by Bill Clinton – a veteran of the political convention speech — as well as a mix of the party’s other top stars. They include Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Convention organizers say those speeches will be balanced by remarks from what they describe as “everyday Americans” whose freedoms hinge on the upcoming election.
Mini Timmaraju, president and CEO of the nonprofit Reproductive Freedom for All, is expected to speak on reproductive rights, which Harris’ campaign sees as a key motivator for Democratic voters this fall.
Wednesday’s program also includes two more governors, Wes Moore of Maryland and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, and several Democratic senators: Cory Booker of New Jersey, Chris Murphy of Connecticut, Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota.
Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to deliver her keynote address in Chicago on Thursday.
Polis, a public supporter of Harris since President Joe Biden ended his campaign in July, has been at the convention all week, where he’s made appearances on TMZ, CNN and MSNBC.
“I think the voters want somebody who’s relatable, and I think they see somebody in both Kamala Harris and Tim Walz that are just relatable,” Polis told MSNBC’s Katy Tur on Tuesday. He told her that “enthusiasm went from a two to a 10” with the new Democratic ticket.
“The country doesn’t want to move backwards to the divided partisan politics of the past. It’s time to move forward, and I’m excited about Kamala Harris,” Polis said.
