Police surround Thornton home after reports of gunfire

Police are staged near a home in the 16000 block of Columbine Street.

THORNTON, Colo. — A 9NEWS crew in Thornton reports that at least one police officer has been shot and suffered injuries that don’t appear to be life-threatening.

The shooting happened after law enforcement responded to a home in Thornton after a report of gunfire early Wednesday morning. The 9NEWS crew saw the officer being taken from the scene in an ambulance.

According to Thornton Police, officers responded to a home in the 16000 block of Columbine Street after someone reported that shots were heard inside the home.

SKY9 showed a large police presence in the area with officers using a megaphone. Police said they’re working to make contact with those inside the home.
