In Jefferson County, the Quarry Fire has grown to 480 acres since it started Tuesday night.

LITTLETON, Colo. — Just down the road from where the Quarry Fire is burning in Jefferson County, the owners of Saucy’s Pizza shop have been trying to find ways to help first responders who are working around the clock.

“We had a lot of people reach out going, ‘I want to bring stuff to the fire, where do I bring it?’ How can I help?'” said TJ Wood, owner of Saucy’s Pizza. “My wife and I are like, ‘well, you know, if it’s easier, let’s just have them bring this all, and we can distribute it.'”

The Quarry Fire started late Tuesday near Deer Creek Canyon. As of Friday afternoon, the wildfire has burned 480 acres and is 10% contained. No structures have been damaged or destroyed.

The owners started collecting donations like water, Gatorade and nonperishable snacks on Wednesday. Since then, they have distributed three van loads of supplies, as well as pizza.

“You’re going door-to-door evacuating people and telling people ‘you should probably leave your house, don’t know if it’s going to be here when you get back.’ That’s hard to tell somebody,” Wood said. “They have a bunch of other things to worry about. They don’t need to worry about how they’re going to eat, and who doesn’t love pizza?”

Wood said he knows he can’t cook up a solution to what’s happening outside. All he can do is give the community a space to bring a little generosity.

“As I was loading more stuff in [the van] this morning, two people walked by and said, ‘we’ll be back with more today,” he said. “So it’s just awesome to hear. It’s really awesome to hear.”

Wood said they plan to collect donations indefinitely. They can be dropped off at his restaurant at 5055 S. Kipling St.
