WASHINGTON — Police in Los Angeles released new details Tuesday in the shooting death of former “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor.

Based on witness statements, Wactor had ended his shift at a local bar and walked to his vehicle around 3 a.m. Saturday. When he got to his car, he was confronted by three people who had the vehicle raised up with a floor jack and were trying to steal the catalytic converter, the LAPD said in a press release

Wactor was shot “without provocation” by one of the three individuals.

The three suspects drove away from the scene, police said. Wactor was rushed to a hospital, where he died.

No arrests have been reported in the case yet.

His family told NBC News and “Good Morning America” the 37-year-old had left work at a rooftop bar with a co-worker and he had stepped in front of that co-worker when the shooting occurred.

LAPD is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Detectives Gonzales or Martinez in Central Bureau Homicide at 213-996-4142.

Wactor portrayed Brando Corbin on the ABC soap opera from 2020 to 2022. He also appeared in a variety of films and TV series, including “Station 19,” “NCIS,” “Westworld” and the video game “Call of Duty: Vanguard.”

The ABC soap opera paid tribute to Wactor in a statement on Sunday.

“The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of Johnny Wactor’s untimely passing. He was truly one of a kind and a pleasure to work with each and every day. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”

The Associated Press contributed to this story.
