Police confronted a man early Monday near Milliken Elementary School who was armed with a knife, according to police.
MILLIKEN, Colo. — A Milliken Police officer shot and injured a man Monday morning, according to police.
About 1:24 a.m., the Milliken Police Department received a call of a suspicious person near Milliken Elementary School.
Police talked to the person on the phone before officers arrived on scene. The person made multiple threatening statements toward law enforcement, police said in a news release.
An officer got to the scene and contacted the person, whom police later identified as 18-year-old Colin Brixius.
Brixius ran at the officer with a “large knife.” The officer commanded Brixius to stop and attempted to use his Taser. Brixius did not stop, and the Taser was not effective, according to police.
The officer fired his duty weapon and hit Brixus, police said.
Brixius was taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds and is expected to survive, according to police. Brixius could face charges of felony menacing, attempted first-degree assault and attempted first-degree murder.
The 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team will handle the investigation.
