Officer Evan Dunn was killed Nov. 6 in a crash on Highway 58 while responding to an earlier crash, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

GOLDEN, Colo. — The service for a Golden Police officer who was killed in a crash by a suspected drunk driver while responding to an earlier crash will be held Wednesday but will not be open to the public.

Officer Evan Dunn, 33, died in a collision on Highway 58 just after 5 p.m. on Nov. 6. Three other people were also injured, including Officer Bethany Grusing, his field training officer. Stephen Geer, 43, was arrested in connection with the crash.

The memorial service for Dunn will take place at Mission Hills Church on Southpark Drive at 1 p.m. The service is private and there are no plans to record it or to provide a public live stream.

Prior to the service, Dunn will be transported to the venue from C-470, north on Lucent Boulevard to eastbound West County Line Road. As a result, West County Line Road will be closed from Lucent Boulevard to South Elati Street beginning around 10 a.m.

Traffic will also be restricted on roads around Mission Hills Church.

Community members are invited to show support along W County Line Road, between South Santa Fe Drive and Lucent Boulevard, or at the Golden Police Department Memorial.

A patrol vehicle is parked outside Golden City Hall, located at 911 10th Street for receiving caring notes or other forms of support that the public may want to leave for Officer Dunn’s family and the Golden Police Department.

Monetary donations to Officer Dunn’s family may be made through the Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation.

Geer is due in court on Thursday.
