Kayakers on Dillon Reservoir Tuesday morning reported a body floating in the water – rangers and sheriff’s deputies used boats to recover the body of an adult man.

DILLON, Colo. — The body of an adult male was recovered from the Dillon Reservoir Tuesday morning after a group of kayakers reported seeing the body floating in the water, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said.

Rangers at the reservoir, along with sheriff’s deputies and detectives, arrived at the scene around 8:30 a.m. and used a boat to reach the man located near the Giberson Bay area. They confirmed the man was deceased.

It was determined the person was not wearing a life jacket, said the sheriff’s office.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss,” said Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons. “While the cause and manner of death are yet to be determined, this incident reminds us of the importance of wearing PFDs.”

The Summit County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the person and determine the cause of death.

If anyone has additional information about this case you can contact Detective Taylor Piper at 970-423-8958 or via email at taylor.piper@summitcountyco.gov.
