Get ready for ex-Man Utd chief’s ‘super sexy’ Austrians
Ralf Rangnick’s “super sexy” Golden Generation of Austrian football is ready to shock the Euros group of death, writes JACK ROSSER.
Manchester United fans will have unhappy memories of Rangnick’s six-month interim spell at Old Trafford from November 2021 – the one blot on an incredible footballing CV.
But the German coach, 65, is now back to doing what he does best – managing, developing, inspiring and transforming players and teams at the very highest level.
And after two years at the helm of Austria, one his toughest tasks lay ahead – navigating a major tournament group from hell that consists of Poland, Netherlands and France.
Fellow Austrian Gerhard Struber – recently in charge at Red Bull Salzburg and one of Rangnick’s proteges – said: “The typical Austrian speech for a tournament like this is normally how we have no chance, but Ralf is completely different in this way.
“We have, I would say, the best squad ever in the history of football in the Austrian association.
“And Ralf gives strength and big power to the team and says when we are very close together, we can win against France, we can win against Netherlands.
“At the moment, the spirit in the team is super sexy and I would say this can make maybe the difference. They now love to come together and love to play in this style.
“It is not always about words; Ralf can inspire players in a direction and a clear idea of how to play. He has this very deep in his core. With this identity, we can win games against top teams.”
