Manuel Luque Quintana, 29, was killed in the shooting that happened at a gas station at 5th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.
DENVER — A 31-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy are in custody in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred at a west Denver gas station on June 8.
Simon Eugene Elijah Gurule was arrested Monday in Denver, Denver Police (DPD) said. The teen, whose name was not released due to him being a minor, was arrested in Arvada also on Monday.
The pair are both being held on suspicion of first-degree murder, and suspicion of attempted first-degree murder.
According to police, Manuel C. Luque Quintana, 29, and a woman were sitting in a car at a Sinclair gas station located at West 5th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard. The suspects pulled up and one of them got out of the passengers’ side of the vehicle and shot Quintana and the woman, DPD said. The suspects then took off, police said.
The woman, who was critically injured in the shooting, was able to walk from the scene. She was found a block away at West 5th Avenue and Zenobia Street, police said. Her current condition was not released. Quintana was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital where he later died, DPD said.
Police said they were able to identify Gurule and the 16-year-old from new license plate reading technology and tips from the public.
Investigators are still working to find out the motive behind the shooting, police said.
Gurule is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond, according to court records.
