According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the deputy shot the man after he attacked the deputy with the pipe.
CRESTONE, Colo. — A man who the CBI said attacked a deputy with a metal pipe was shot and killed by that deputy around noon on Thursday in Saguache County.
According to the CBI, a Saguache County deputy was driving near Crestone to serve papers when he noticed a man walking about a mile from the entrance of the Baca Grande Subdivision. The deputy recognized the man and knew he was wanted on a warrant, CBI said.
When the deputy tried to talk with the man, the CBI said the man attacked him with a 4-foot metal pipe. During the attack, the deputy pulled out his service weapon and fired twice hitting the man, according to CBI.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy was taken to a hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and then released.
