In December, police got a tip that a 26-year-old man had killed an “unknown woman.” Investigators discovered who she was, but they haven’t found her body.
DENVER — Denver Police (DPD) believe a woman originally from Maine was murdered in November in the city but have been unable to find her body, in part because the man who may be responsible for her death took his own life.
It’s believed that Naudia Wesley, 27, was killed on Nov. 13, but the information is limited on the circumstances surrounding her death. Denver Police declined to provide additional information when asked why investigators believed Wesley was killed on Nov. 13.
Denver Police said they got a tip that 26-year-old Keelynn Ashworth had murdered an unknown woman, but when asked, would not say specifically when they received that tip.
On Dec. 1, investigators went to Ashworth’s apartment to execute a search warrant, but he refused to come out, police said. On that day, police said on social media that they executed a search warrant in the 6800 block of East Iliff Avenue, and when officers did they heard a gunshot inside an apartment.
The man inside was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Denver Police said. The Denver Medical Examiner’s Officer confirmed the man found dead at the location was Ashworth.
The initial tip to Denver Police didn’t include the name of the victim or any identifying information, and at the time, Wesley had not been reported missing, according to Denver Police.
On Tuesday, a spokesman said, “It took some skilled police and forensic work to learn Naudia’s identity and confirm that she was the victim of this crime.”
Police said it remains an active investigation as they continue seeking more information surrounding the events.
