DENVER — Nelson Giesecke has been creating custom, one-of-a-kind pieces for more than 50 years. He currently owns Object Design Studio in Cherry Creek.

He makes everything from watches to pendants, wedding rings and anything else you can dream up. Giesecke does it all by hand.

“In general, they’re pretty chewed up from all the filing, hammering and sawing and drilling that I have done over the years,” Giesecke said.

Most pieces take a few weeks to design, and another few weeks to make. The work and time Giesecke is worth it for the bond he is also building with his customers.

“People that I get to meet and be able to share that joy and fun of their lives, with them, at the same time I am building something cool for them,” Giesecke said.

Giesecke remembered one couple he made a wedding ring for. Cancer later took that man from his wife.

“After his death, we needed to find a way to celebrate her life with him in a better way,” Giesecke said. “And so we both sort of came together and talked about what we wanted and this is how it all worked out. These are a pair of dancers in the form of two cancer ribbons and it’s for a broach I am making that will have the two dancers together, and they’ll be holding each other.”

Giesecke was able to incorporate the man’s ashes into the piece.

“The husband’s ashes were sent in to a place to turn them into a stone, so it will have this stone as the two heads and there will be two bodies and two arms I am going to build for the dancers,” Giesecke said.

Nelson Giesecke creates pieces with a purpose.

“Those have a deeper meaning for the people that wear them,” Giesecke said. “It’s not just jewelry, it never is.”
