Three fires in Larimer, Boulder and Jefferson counties have already burned thousands of acres in Colorado.
COLORADO, USA — Several wildfires are burning throughout Colorado this week as the state continues to grapple with a prolonged stretch of dry, hot weather.
Three fires burning along the Front Range have prompted hundreds of evacuation and pre-evacuation notices for nearby residents.
Smoke, challenging winds and extremely dry conditions are expected throughout the next few days with some relief coming by Friday.
Here are the latest details on the wildfires burning throughout Colorado.
Quarry Fire
The Quarry Fire forced evacuations late Tuesday night for hundreds of resident southwest of Denver in Jefferson County. A deputy patrolling the area of Deer Creek Canyon Road west of Grizzly Drive spotted a small fire Tuesday night, which quickly grew to burn about 130 acres by Wednesday morning.
Five subdivisions that include about 600 homes have been placed under a mandatory evacuation order. They include:
- Deer Creek Mesa
- Sampson
- Maxwell
- McKinney
- Murphy
An evacuation center has been set up at Dakota Ridge High School at 13399 W. Coal Mine Ave. in Jefferson County.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Mark Techmeyer said the open space area where the fire is burning is mountainous and full of scrub brush, making it difficult for firefighters to navigate on foot. About 12 agencies are working to fight the fire Wednesday. The cause is under investigation.

Stone Canyon Fire
Two structures have been lost in a fast-moving Stone Canyon Fire that started north of Lyons on Tuesday afternoon. The fire saw no significant growth overnight into Wednesday and continues to be most active in the northeast section, according to fire officials.
About 380 homes in Boulder County are under evacuation orders:
Aircraft is expected to return to the area Wednesday with fire retardant and water drops.
An overnight shelter is set up at Foundation Church at 1380 N. Denver St. in Loveland. Officials said on Wednesday morning that at least one person has died in the fire and five homes have been destroyed.

Alexander Mountain Fire
The Alexander Mountain Fire started burning Monday afternoon west of Loveland. By Tuesday afternoon, the fire had grown to more than 5,000 acres with no containment.
Firefighters expect fire activity to increase Wednesday as temperatures rise. They’ll focus efforts on protecting neighboring communities while working to keep the fire north of Highway 34.
More than 270 firefighting personnel on the ground and a complex incident management team have been ordered to provide extra manpower on Wednesday.
No loss of infrastructure or structures have been reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire officials, along with Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, are expected to provide an update on firefighting efforts during a briefing at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.
