Lanes of C-470 closed due to ‘radiological device’

LONE TREE, Colo. — Multiple lanes of C-470 were closed in both directions between South Quebec Street and South Yosemite street after a “radiological device” fell from a vehicle involved in a crash.

The crash happened Thrusday morning and involved three vehicles, according to South Metro Fire Rescue. One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, South Metro Fire said. Not other injuries were reported.

During the crash, a device, described by South Metro Fire as radiological, fell from one of the vehicles and is being investigated by a Hazardous Materials Team, South Metro Fire said.

In an update, South Metro Fire said the device was found to be a Troxler nuclear density gauge. The gauge is commonly used by contractors, engineers and highway departments to determine the density of materials and surfaces, according to South Metro Fire.

The device was found to be intact and no leak occurred, South Metro Fire said.

South Metro Fire said drivers could expect delays due to lane closures in both directions of C-470. Crews are working on cleaning up the scene and reopening all lanes of traffic soon.
