The Chez Artiste is the second arthouse cinema closed by Landmark Theatres in the past two months.
DENVER — After almost 52 years in business, the Chez Artiste movie theater will permanently close this week.
Landmark Theatres said the Denver arthouse movie theater, which opened in 1972, will close Thursday.
“Our last day of operation will be 8/8/2024. It has been our pleasure to serve you!” said a sign on the theater’s front door.
The Chez Artiste has been operated by Landmark since 1992 in the University Hills Plaza, near East Yale Avenue and South Colorado Boulevard, in southeast Denver.
The theater specializes in independent film and foreign language cinema.
In July, Landmark Theatres closed another Denver movie theater. Its Esquire Theatre at 590 Downing St. closed in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
The Esquire had been in operation since 1927. The movie theater was bought by Landmark Theatres in 1980, and the company continued to operate the cinema after selling the building in 2021.
Landmark Theatres will continue to operate two other movie theaters in the Denver area: the Mayan Theatre at 110 Broadway in Denver and the Landmark Greenwood Village near Interstate 25 and East Belleview Avenue.
