DENVER — Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to formally accept the presidential nomination of the Democratic Party on Thursday night.

Young women in Denver’s George Washington High School’s speech and debate class said while they can’t vote this election, they’re still excited to see a woman at the top of the ticket.

Here is what some of them had to say:

“I went to a predominately white school,” said Kaleah Wallace, a junior. “So It’s kind of hard being the only black girl in your classrooms and so she has probably experienced being the only woman, Indian woman, in her environment.”

“I would be really scared to do that and like, see how I would be perceived,” said Mariam Janneh, a sophomore. “So seeing how she does it and like seeing someone I can learn from is really good.”

“No matter your background, no matter your identity, you can really achieve whatever you want if you put your mind towards it,” said Caroline Mabey.
