GRAND COUNTY, Colo. — A very good boy has worked his last shift at a Colorado sheriff’s office.
K9 Milo retired from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office on Friday.
Milo, a German Shepherd, served the sheriff’s office as a dual-purpose canine certified in patrol, tracking and narcotics detection. Milo has been partnered with deputy, handler and school resource officer DJ Elthorp since 2017.
Born on May 3, 2016, in the Czech Republic, Milo was brought to the United States after doing his initial K9 training in Germany.
Among many highlights in his career, Milo received the High Desert Police K9 Challenge Award for 1st Place in Narcotics Detection and 2nd Place for Agility in 2021 and the Narcotics Case of the Year Award for 2022.
The Grand County Sheriff’s Office said Milo will continue to live with Elthorp in his retirement and enjoy getting to spend more time playing with the three cats and two other dogs at home.
