Is Outlook down? Microsoft works to fix outage

About 86% of issues reported on Down Detector Monday were related to Outlook.

WASHINGTON — Microsoft is working to fix an issue with Outlook and Teams following an apparent outage early Monday. 

Users began reporting issues with Microsoft platforms around 8 a.m. Monday, according to Down Detector. By 11:24 a.m., reports had peaked at 4,600. About 86% of issues reported on the outage detection site Monday were related to Outlook. 

“We’re investigating an issue impacting users attempting to access Exchange Online or functionality within Microsoft Teams calendar,” the company said at 4 a.m. Eastern on X, formerly Twitter. “For more information, please refer to MO941162 in the admin center.”

Hours later, the tech company said it had identified the issue and was deploying a fix. 

“We’ve identified a recent change which we believe has resulted in impact. We’ve started to revert the change and are investigating what additional actions are required to mitigate the issue,” the company said on X around 7 a.m. Eastern. “We’ve started to deploy a fix which is currently progressing through the affected environment. While this progresses, we’re beginning manual restarts on a subset of machines that are in an unhealthy state.”

The tech company said its fix had reached “approximately 98% of affected environments” as of 11:56 a.m. Eastern.

Microsoft 365, formerly Office 365, is a subscription-based plan from the tech company that includes services like Word and Excel.
