The storms will rumble through the foothills between noon and 3 p.m. before moving into the I-25 corridor between 2 and 7 p.m.

DENVER — Travelers headed out of Denver International Airport on Monday afternoon need to be aware there is a possibility of storm activity that could delay incoming and outgoing flights.

9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Keely Chalmers said clouds will increase as we head through the day, with the potential for impactful storms this afternoon and evening.

The storms will fire up in the foothills between noon and 3 p.m. before moving into the Interstate 25 corridor between 2 and 7 p.m., with heavy rain, gusty winds, and damaging hail possible.

The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team said there is more monsoonal moisture in our air Monday, ramping up chances for damaging wind and large hail east of downtown Denver.

Keely said there’s a 50% chance of storms for the Denver metro area on Monday. The storms may intensify as they move over the eastern plains.

The National Weather Service in Boulder said brief heavy rains may lead to localized flash flooding, especially over the burn scar areas.

Flightaware.com’s Misery Map shows there have been 39 flight delays and one cancelation at DIA on Monday as of 12:45 p.m.
