Ice artisans are hard at work growing, harvesting and placing thousands of icicles at the frozen wonderlands in Colorado.
CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo. — A frozen attraction is set to return to Colorado with twice the magic this winter.
Ice Castles will return for a second winter in Cripple Creek and a new location in Eagle.
The Ice Castles exhibition is made of ice-carved tunnels, caverns, fountains, slides, frozen thrones, towers, and crawl spaces. The acre-sized winter playgrounds are illuminated at night by color-changing LED lights embedded inside the ice.
Construction on the winter attraction is underway with a team of artisans growing, harvesting, and placing up to 10,000 icicles each day. The icicles are fused together and sprayed with water to create a towering frozen fortress up to 20 feet tall.
It will take several weeks to build the experiences. Ice Castles typically opens in late December or early January, depending on the weather, and remain open until early March.
Tickets to visit the frozen fortresses go on sale Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 10 a.m. at IceCastles.com.

In addition to its Colorado locations, the Utah-based Ice Castles team will also set up in Utah, Minnesota, and New Hampshire this winter.
Cripple Creek is known for its annual Ice Festival, which is scheduled for Feb. 15 to Feb. 23, 2025.
