Denver International Airport experienced hundreds of delays while strong winds are forecasted to be widespread throughout Monday.
DENVER — Hundreds of flights are delayed and TSA is experiencing long security wait times Monday morning at Denver’s airport.
Flight delays
There were 319 reported delays in and out of Denver International Airport, as of 9 a.m. Monday, according to FlightAware.
The majority of the delays are Southwest Airlines flights, followed by United Airlines.
A spokesperson for the airport said the cause for the flight delays is due to the wind. Strong winds on Monday are forecasted to be 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a Red Flag Warning for most of eastern Colorado, including the Denver metro area, for wind and low relative humidity from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday.
TSA Security Wait Times
Denver International Airport (DIA) also has been dealing with long TSA security lines Monday morning.
At 9 a.m. Monday, the wait time at West Security topped 40 minutes for standard screening while the wait for TSA PreCheck was greater than 20 minutes.
TSA said there was an extremely high number of travelers departing from Denver Monday morning. About 37,000 passengers were projected to be screened between 5 a.m. and noon, according to TSA. That number is more than half of an average day’s total.
Bridge Security and South Security also topped a wait time of greater than 15 minutes, as of 9 a.m. Monday.

DIA officials recommend passengers should arrive inside the airport at least two hours before their scheduled boarding time. Passengers should also check with their airline to confirm that your flight is on time and check-in online if possible.
