Sheriff’s deputies don’t have a description of the person who crashed into them and are asking for the public’s help.

KEYSTONE, Colo. — Summit County deputies are looking for a person who crashed into a father and his adult daughter Tuesday at Keystone Resort, leaving the father with serious injuries.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said in a release that the collision happened at the bottom of the Bergman Bowl, near the intersection of the Blackjack and Prospector ski trails, between 12:30 and 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.

As the father and daughter were exiting the Blackjack run, an unidentified male on a ski bike came from behind and collided with the daughter, causing her to fall to the ground. He then crashed into the father, who was just ahead of her, according to the sheriff’s office.

The daughter was treated for her injuries and released, the sheriff’s office said. The father was seriously injured and is in critical condition at a Denver area hospital.

The father is in his 70s, and the daughter is in her 50s, according to a sheriff’s office spokesperson. They were visiting from California.

“This catastrophic collision, resulting in devastating injuries, evolved into a criminal event once the unidentified person fled the scene without identifying himself or seeking aid,” said Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons in a statement. “The law specifically states that no skier involved in a collision with another skier or person in which an injury results shall leave the vicinity of the collision before giving his or her name and current address to an employee of the ski area operator or a member of the ski patrol, except for the purpose of securing aid for a person injured in the collision; in which event the person so leaving the scene of the collision shall give his or her name and current address after securing such aid. Neither of which occurred in this instance.”

The sheriff’s office said it doesn’t have a description of the person on the ski bike. They’re asking for any witnesses or anyone with information about the collision to call Summit County dispatch at 970-668-8600.
