The chase reached speeds of up to 90 mph, according to the Park County Sheriff’s Office.
PARK COUNTY, Colo. — A high-speed chase of a felony suspect on Saturday morning ended in a crash, according to the Park County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said it was notified just before 10 a.m. by the Teller County Sheriff’s Office of a man who was armed and dangerous and wanted for a felony warrant.
The suspect was known to be under the influence of drugs and had a violent criminal record and was also reported to be armed with a firearm, according to the release.
The sheriff’s office said a Park County deputy identified the suspect going north on Highway 9 just after 11 a.m. The deputy then followed the suspect’s vehicle as they waited for backup to make a traffic stop.
At 11:25 a.m., the sheriff’s office said the deputy coordinated with Fairplay Police officers and Colorado State Patrol troopers to stop the suspect’s vehicle, but the suspect drove off.
Law enforcement then followed the suspect through Alma, where the sheriff’s office said they reached speeds of up to 90 mph, traveling up Hoosier Pass toward Breckenridge.
According to the release, the chase became dangerous. The sheriff’s office said the suspect recklessly maneuvered into opposite lanes, and the Park County deputy stopped pursuit just before 11:30 a.m.
At 11:40 AM, the sheriff’s office said Park County Communications received reports that the suspect’s vehicle had crashed just north of Blue River Road in the town of Blue River.
The man had serious injuries and was air-lifted to a hospital in Denver, according to the release.
Colorado State Patrol is investigating the cause of the single-vehicle crash, Park County Sheriff’s Office said.
