Hikers have until July 8 to take advantage of all the trails at this park, which is said to be a great place to spot elk.
EVERGREEN, Colo. — Portions of Elk Meadow Park, a popular hiking spot in Evergreen, are set to close July 8.
The 1,658-acre park is “the most likely place in the Open Space system to view herds of elk,” according to Jefferson County Open Space.
Closures are due to “forest health management” and are expected to last until the spring of next year depending on weather conditions, the department said.
A map shared by the department shows the following trails will be impacted by the closure:
- Stagecoach Trailhead
- Elk Ridge Trail
- Ever So Green Trail
- Elk Summit Trail
- Meadow View Trail
- Bergen Peak Trail
- Sleepy S Trail
The department said the northern side of the park and the Lewis Ridge Trailhead will remain open.
Forest management work takes place to “improve forest health, reduce wildfire risk, enhance wildlife habitat, and maintain aesthetic and ecological values,” according to the department’s website.
