Jose Bustamante, 41, is wanted for the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Suany Melgar Almendarez in September.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Englewood police have identified a suspect in the fatal shooting of a woman in September.

The Englewood Police Department said in a release Wednesday that 41-year-old Jose Bustamante is wanted for shooting and killing Suany Melgar Almendarez, 41, in September. A $5 million cash-only warrant has been issued for his arrest for first-degree murder and tampering with a deceased human body.

Police said that on the morning of Sept. 11, officers were called to the area of Vallejo Street and Adriatic Place, where they found a woman who had been shot to death and then placed in the alley at some point during the night.

During their investigation, officers identified a blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and issued a Crime Stoppers bulletin on Oct. 10.

On Oct. 12, detectives found the truck. Police said after processing it and obtaining other evidence, detectives identified Bustamante as the suspect.

Anyone with information about the case or Bustamante’s whereabouts is asked to call their local law enforcement agency immediately. Bustamante is considered armed and dangerous, police said, and anyone who sees him should not try to contact him.

Anyone with information can also call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 or visit metrodenvercrimestoppers.com. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
