The affected treats were distributed to Hollywood Feed stores in 19 states.

WASHINGTON — Hundreds of bags of “Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips” dog treats have been recalled due to potential salmonella contamination.

The voluntary recall by Carolina Prime Pet, Inc., includes 16-ounce purple-and-black bags distributed to Hollywood Feed stores across 19 states as well as through the company’s online retailer. The specific lot number identified as potentially contaminated is 20051324L2, with an expiration date of November 13, 2025. This is the only lot number that may have been contaminated, the company said.

The affected treats were distributed to stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Salmonella infection in humans can cause symptoms that range from mild to severe, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, more serious complications such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis could develop.

Dogs that consume the contaminated treats may experience lethargy, bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Asymptomatic pets can become carriers and potentially spread infection to other pets or humans.

The recall stems from third-party laboratory testing that identified contamination in a related, unreleased product lot. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this specific recall.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled treats are advised to immediately stop feeding the treats to their pets. Health experts recommend that anyone who has handled the treats thoroughly wash their hands and disinfect any surfaces that may have come into contact with the product. Pet owners should monitor their animals for any signs of illness and consult a veterinarian if symptoms arise.

The company is offering full refunds or replacement products. Customers can contact Carolina Prime Pet directly by emailing treats@carolinaprimepet.com or calling 828-394-6460 during business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET.
