HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — One person is in custody after shots were fired at officers who were pursuing a driver wanted in connection with a burglary at a business in Douglas County.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for a burglary at a salvage yard near Highway 85 and Blakeland Drive in Highlands Ranch early Wednesday morning. In an attempt to get away, the driver rammed a deputy’s patrol car, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies began a pursuit of the driver, and during that pursuit, the sheriff’s office said, the driver fired shots at deputies and officers from the Englewood Police Department.

The driver crashed near Village Greens Park in Greenwood Village not far from Cherry Creek High School and was taken into custody, the sheriff’s office said.

One deputy is being evaluated at an area hospital after his patrol vehicle was rammed, the sheriff’s office said.

This is a developing situation. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
