CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. — The two former Clear Creek deputies involved in the 2022 shooting of Christian Glass appeared in court Thursday to discuss plea deals. One entered a plea and his sentencing will be next month. The other pleaded not guilty.

Kyle Gould entered plea and his sentencing is set for Thursday Nov. 16 at 1:30 p.m. The plea he entered is unknown.

Andrew Buen pleaded not guilty and requested a trial. A trial date was not set Thursday, but prosecutors expect it to be within four weeks. Buen is due in court on Dec. 18.

The 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office offered the plea deals to both former Clear Creek deputies in September. Both Gould and Buen appeared in court at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Christian Glass called 911 for help after he got his car stuck on a boulder in Silver Plume in June 2022. He appeared to be in the midst of a mental health crisis when several officers engaged with him for over an hour. Buen then broke his window, shot him with bean bag rounds, and used a Taser on him before shooting him five times in the chest.

In November 2022, a Clear Creek grand jury indicted Buen, who shot and killed Glass, on charges of second-degree murder, official misconduct and reckless endangerment. Gould, who wasn’t at the scene that night, was indicted on criminally negligent homicide and reckless endangerment charges.

According to court documents, Gould gave the order for deputies to break into Glass’ car while watching the entire encounter with him on a live-streamed body camera.

The sheriff’s office fired both deputies.

In May, the Glass family was awarded $19 million in a settlement agreement with Clear Creek County, the Colorado State Patrol, the Georgetown Police Department and the Idaho Springs Police Department – all departments with officers on scene that night. Among the many non-economic terms of the settlement, Clear Creek County has implemented a crisis response team to respond to calls.
