Chief Thomas spoke briefly at the scene of the first shooting. In that case, Thomas said officers were called to East 45th Avenue and St. Paul Street about a man with a gun who was threatening people. Officers located the man near East 47th Avenue and York Street, Thomas said.
The man refused to follow officers’ commands to stop and show his hands, Thomas said. The man pulled what looked like a pistol from a bag, and officers shot the man, Thomas said. The gun turned out to a realistic-looking Airsoft gun, police said.
The man shot by officers was rushed to a hospital. Police said the man was expected to survive. He may face charges stemming for felony menacing, Chief Thomas said last week.
In the second case, police said officers were called to the Whole Foods located at 1701 Wewatta St. at around 6:20 p.m. Thursday on reports of a man brandishing a knife inside the store. Officers kept customers away from the area where the man was, a shopper told 9NEWS reporter Cole Sullivan.
An officer while contacting the man, fired a shot. No one was hit by the bullet, police said. Officers used a Taser on the man and then took him into custody, police said.
