You sign up for a streaming service and then totally forget about it. Sound familiar?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — New data shows you’re likely spending a lot more on subscriptions than you realize.

Americans are spending billions of dollars on stuff they have probably forgotten about. Subscription services’ dirty little secret is they owe a lot of their success to customers’ lack of attention.

You can stream WCNC Charlotte on Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV, just download the free app.

Most Americans think they spend about $62 per month on subscriptions. But, get this, the real number is closer to $300 per month.

Between streaming music, newspaper and other services, it can all add up.

Lots of folks plan to pick up subscriptions for one-off things like sports games and seasons of a show they like.

But, when they forget to cancel, it generates big money for services like Peacock or Hulu.
