BOULDER, Colo. — Boulder resident and acclaimed road cyclist, Marianne Martin, who won the first ever Tour de France Feminin in 1984, is in the hospital after a horrible crash while descending Sunshine Canyon on Oct. 6, Jeff Platt, a spokesperson for Martin said in a release Tuesday.

Platt said the accident happened while descending Sunshine Canyon when Martin apparently overcorrected on a turn at a high rate of speed, crashing her bike and suffered a collapsed lung, concussion, fractured clavicle in two places, fractured collarbone in two places, 12 broken ribs (some in multiple places), and road rash.

She was transported by ambulance to the emergency room and spent several days in the ICU.
