The state-of-the-art Alienware Buffalo Esports and Gaming Lounge is Alienware’s first in Colorado.

BOULDER, Colo. — A new gaming lounge has opened at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Dell Technologies’ gaming brand Alienware and CU Boulder opened the new esports and gaming lounge last month.

Located inside the University Memorial Center on the CU campus, the lounge is Alienware’s first in Colorado and its second collegiate facility in the country.

A $1.2 million contribution funded the renovation of a 1,275-square-foot space to house state-of-the-art Alienware Aurora R16 desktops and Alienware m16 gaming laptops.

The lounge was built for open game play and varsity training, with Alienware displays and peripherals, a multiplayer console area and a broadcast studio. The lounge offers spaces for esports athletes and gamers to play, train and compete in competitions around the world.

“This space will be multifaceted in providing benefits to CU students,” said Nick Remple, president of CU Gaming. “It has the ability to build a stronger, tighter community for the students on campus, being able to use the space to hang out with and make new friends, but also serve as a way for our esports teams to practice and develop as players.”

“CU Boulder’s national prominence and thriving gaming community attracted Alienware to the university,” said Matt McGowan, General Manager of Alienware. “The growing popularity of esports on campuses offers students the opportunity to participate in organized play, build an on-campus network, and prepare for associated career paths offered throughout the gaming and esports industry.”

“We are excited to partner with Alienware to introduce a dynamic and high-tech gaming lounge at CU Boulder where Buffs can connect, learn and grow,” said Dr. D’Andra Mull, vice chancellor for student affairs. “The Alienware Buffalo Esports and Gaming Lounge will enhance CU’s student experience because gaming–in its many diverse forms–has the power to build community.”
