The crash happened as an intense snow squall moved through the area early Tuesday morning.

GEORGETOWN, Colo. — Multiple vehicles were involved in a crash Tuesday morning on eastbound Interstate 70 near Georgetown as winter weather moved through the area.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash was reported at 9:15 a.m. at milepost 230 in Clear Creek County. A spokesman could not say the exact number of vehicles involved but said no injuries were reported.

9NEWS meteorologist Cory Reppenhagen was driving through the area at the time of the crash and said that the crash involved six vehicles. He also said it happened as an intense snow squall moved through.

Video from the scene showed one vehicle nearly on its side in the center median parched partially on a guardrail. A second vehicle, also in the center median, appeared to have heavy front-end damage, and a large piece of the metal guardrail was damaged.

As a result of the crash, the eastbound lanes were closed in the area, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). Check here for the latest travel conditions.

Snow began falling in along Colorado’s Front Range and the Denver metro area Tuesday morning and is forecasted to continue into the afternoon. Less than an inch of snow is expected to accumulate in the lower elevations, with rain showers also possible.

The greatest travel impacts are expected in the mountains west of Denver.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning and Avalanche Warning for portions of the mountains, especially areas above 9,000 feet. Snow and blowing snow are likely with 6 to 12 inches of accumulation.
