During the first week of its crackdown, Aurora Police cited 23 drivers.
AURORA, Colorado — Scofflaws in Colorado better avoid driving in Aurora.
Aurora Police said its motorcycle patrol officers have begun writing tickets for people with expired license tags and other registration violations.
Enforcement patrol officers are targeting the following:
- No vehicle registration
- Failure to register a vehicle within 90 days of moving to Colorado
- License plates not attached
- Expired license plates
- Expired temp tags
- Failure to display valid registration
- Stolen plates or plates displayed are fictitious
- Legally inoperable vehicle which is a parking violation
Officers began their enforcement last week, and ticketed 23 drivers. Police said its enforcement team will be performing operations weekly throughout the summer.
Drivers could be fined $15-$75 plus surcharges for vehicle registration violations. The fine and surcharge for having an expired plate more than 60 days is $95.50, according to police.
If a driver is caught and convicted for having stolen, fake, altered or suspended license plates, they could spend 10-90 days in jail and/or be fined $150-300.
During the first week of their crackdown, the oldest expired plate officers encountered was from August 2021, police said.
