A storm that moved through Greeley on Tuesday dropped large hail and caused significant flooding.
GREELEY, Colo. — The City of Greeley issued a local disaster declaration Friday after a storm dropped large hail and caused significant flooding earlier this week.
The city estimated the severe weather on Tuesday caused more than $1.45 million in damage across downtown and east Greeley.

The declaration allows the city to work on recovery efforts interjurisdictionally and might allow eligibility for state and federal assistance programs.
“In the wake of the storm, city staff have been working tirelessly to clean and clear city streets, assess damage and provide necessary support to those impacted,” the statement said.
Business owners and individuals can report damage on Weld County’s website to help officials understand the scope of the storm. The city said the form is not intended for insurance claims or anyone needing an immediate response.
The city said in a news release that the mayor has signed the declaration and it will go before the City Council on Tuesday to be continued by resolution.

Greeley Police said on Friday that one person who died during the storm was found a backyard near 24th Street and 8th Avenue. The Weld County Coroner’s Office said that the victim’s cause of death had not yet been determined.
The city received 71 calls for service during a four-hour period while the storm was moving through. Greeley agencies and crews from Platte Valley, Evans and Windsor assisted 47 callers and completed 10 rescues, a city spokeswoman said.
