When asked whether they still plan to support Trump, all six Republican candidates raised their hands.
DENVER — All six Republican primary candidates running for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District said they will still support former President Donald Trump, even after his felony conviction.
Trump was convicted of 34 felony counts in the New York case about falsifying business records Thursday afternoon.
In a 9NEWS debate Thursday night, all six candidates were asked if they intend to vote for Trump for president. U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, who represents the state’s 3rd Congressional District but is moving to run in the 4th District, raised her hand before the question was finished.
The other five candidates, Logan County Commissioner Jerry Sonnenberg, current state Rep. Richard Holtorf, former state House Minority Leader Mike Lynch, mortgage broker Peter Yu, and former conservative talk radio host Deborah Flora also raised their hands.
Holtorf had gone on record on conservative talk radio station KNUS previously and said that Republicans will continue to lose in Colorado if every Republican is “hogtied” to Trump. He has also said, “Colorado is not a Trump state.”
When asked if he would defy Trump and vote against any of his priorities if elected to Congress, Holtorf said he still supports Trump, but that Colorado has its own unique issues.
“Let’s remember what happened in 2020. Donald Trump didn’t win this state,” Holtorf said. “We need a representative, Kyle, that’s going to represent Colorado in the eastern 21 counties in Colorado, not somebody that’s gonna follow Donald Trump around and do everything that Donald Trump wants.”
