Liverpool beat Chelsea in the 2023/24 Carabao Cup final thanks to Virgil van Dijk’s 118th-minute winner at Wembley.

Both sides had a goal ruled out by VAR; first Raheem Sterling’s tap-in in the first half, and then Virgil van Dijk’s header in the second period.

But Van Dijk won it late with another header to bag Jurgen Klopp’s seventh major trophy at Liverpool.

The 2024/25 Carabao Cup got underway this week – with some blockbuster ties kicking off the competition.

Championship powerhouses Leeds and Middlesbrough go head-to-head this evening in arguably the tie of round one.

A total of 32 round-one ties will have been contested by the end of tonight.

Burnley and Luton will enter the hat for the second-round draw alongside the 13 Premier League clubs that are not competing in Europe this season.

The other seven top-flight sides with European commitments will join the competition in the third round.
