A warrant has been issued for 33-year-old Miles Harford on charges of abuse of a corpse, forgery and theft.

DENVER — A warrant has been issued for a Denver man after a woman’s body and professionally cremated remains belonging to about 30 people were found at a home on South Quitman Street that was once rented by the man.

A warrant was issued Friday for Miles Harford, 33, who is wanted on charges of abuse of a corpse, forgery, and theft.

Denver Police and the Denver District Attorney’s Office are set to speak about the investigation at 11:30 a.m. 9NEWS will livestream the news conference in the video player above and on the free 9NEWS+ app on Roku and Fire TV.

The Denver Medical Examiner’s Office and Denver Police were both called to the home in the 2500 block of South Quitman Street on Feb. 6 for a “suspicious occurrence.”

According to police, Harford was evicted from the home and while it was being cleaned, the homeowner found boxes of cremains and reported the discovery to Denver Sheriff’s deputies who were at the location for the eviction.

While processing the scene, investigators from DPD and the medical examiner’s office also inspected a hearse that was parked on the property. It was found to contain the body of a deceased woman and additional cremains.

The body was identified as a 63-year-old woman who died of natural causes in August of 2022. Denver Police said they believe her body has been stored and concealed in the hearse since shortly after her passing.

Investigators contacted her family and they told detectives that Harford had provided them with what they believed were the cremains of their loved one. The family has since turned over what they got from Harford to the medical examiner’s office.

Harford owned Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services in Littleton, but it’s been closed since September 2022. During the investigation, the medical examiner’s office has recovered the cremains of roughly 30 people. Investigators are cross-referencing state databases and information from labels on the urns to identify the cremains so that they can be given to family members.

Anyone who’s used Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services who did not receive the cremains of a loved one, or had concerns about services provided by the funeral home, is encouraged to call the Denver Police Major Crimes Division and Denver Police Victim Assistance Unit at 720-913-6610.

Investigators have previously been in contact with Harford – who is believed to be in the Denver area – and are now working to find and arrest him.
